Kilkeel High School is a school which is very proud of its long association with charitable contributions to deserving causes, both locally and across the globe. Pupils and staff participate in weekly charity collections and in many special charity events throughout the year.
In our 2024 ETA Inspection Report it was stated ‘In keeping with the school’s core values, pupils are encouraged to carry out acts of kindness and partake in charitable activities which support the health and wellbeing of others. Most recently, the school has raised funds for Mourne Stimulus and for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland.’
Each year approximately £15,000 is donated by the pupils, staff and friends of Kilkeel High School. This money is then shared amongst charities chosen by staff and pupils.
As part of the school’s commitment to service to others, some of our senior pupil’s volunteer to serve on the Charity Committee. They take it in turn each week to count the weekly charity and help organise charity events.
The KHS Charity Cup is awarded annually at the Prize Distribution afternoon. Mrs Butler’s Year 13 Form Class have been the recipient of this for several years!
Some of these charities are listed below:

The chosen charities fall into three categories: local, national and global. Members of the Charities Committee come up with some very original ideas for raising money such as: school fashion show, having a Christmas jumper day, anything but a bag day, football tournaments, sponsored silences, as well as bun sales and the annual Christmas Coffee Morning!
Throughout the school there is active engagement in considering the work of charitable organisations and choosing innovative ways in which we, as a school, can offer our help. Many of our pupils and staff have charities which are close to their hearts and do their utmost to support these; thereby demonstrating their positive commitment to leading a life of meaning, where relationships and engagement in society are key tremendous example of what can be done for others, if we work together.
