Year 8 Electric Ireland NI Cup Final

Massive congratulations to our Year 8 Girls’ Football Team who won the final of the Electric Ireland NI Schools Cup on Tuesday 2nd May at Danny Blanchflower Stadium in Belfast! They beat Blessed Trinity on penalties after a closely contested match. The score was 3-3 after full time with goals coming from Maddie and Carly who got two. Then in extra time Zoey scored what we thought was the winner, only to be denied the win by another Blessed Trinity goal about a minute later! At the end of extra time it was 4-4 and the girls had to step up bravely for a penalty shoot-out. Another close encounter ended up in sudden death and it was our girls who came out victorious! Well done to the girls who took a penalty and for Evie in nets who kept her cool and made a super save to put Kilkeel ahead. What an achievement for the girls and for our school. We are so proud of the way the girls fought to the very end, never once giving up and for believing in themselves. WELL DONE GIRLS!! Thanks also to the staff and pupils who came along to give us the much needed support! This was an inaugural cup so KHS have made history by becoming the first winners. KHS girls have a great footballing year with two out of our three girl’s teams reaching finals of country-wide cups with the year 8s going on to be champions!
