Ulster Success for KHS as Athletes Secure Medals and Irish Qualification

On Wednesday 13th May and Saturday 16th May 2026, 10 pupils from Kilkeel High School competed in 11 events at the Ulster Schools Athletics’ Championships. The pupils performed admirably with two medals for the Kilkeel students, Rebecca was 2nd in the Senior Girls’ Discus and Adam was 2nd in the Senior Boys’ High Jump. This then qualified them for the Irish Athletic Championships in Tullamore, County Offaly in their respective events.
John-James came agonisingly close to a medal in the Inter Boys’ 400m hurdles, losing out by 0.04. But it’s his first year doing this event so an encouraging year in this new event for him.
The other results were as follows:
Aaron: 6th in the Junior Boys’ Long Jump and 7th in the Junior Boys’ Triple Jump
Alexandra: 8th in the Senior Girls’ Triple Jump
Jack: 8th in the Senior Boys’ Triple Jump
Layla: 10th in the Junior Girls’ 200m
Carson: 10th in the Mini Boys’ Shot Putt
Ruby: 12th in the Junior Girls’ Discus
Harvey: 12th in the Inter Boys’ Long Jump
At the Irish Championships on Saturday 29th May, Adam and Rebecca gave an excellent account of themselves, representing their family, school, province with solid performances. Rebecca came 7th in the Senior Girls’ Discus and Adam was 10th in the High Jump in very difficult, wet conditions on the track and in the throwing area.
Another successful season for the Kilkeel High School athletics’ team and we look forward to high level performances in our Sports’ Day on Thursday 18th June and the Inter Schools’ South Down Athletics’ Championships at Mary Peters’.
