U14 Boys Football Triumph in NI Plate Fixture

The Boys’ U14 football team played their match in the NI Plate on Thursday past. They were drawn away to Clounagh Junior High School and having lost to this team earlier in the season, 3-2 after extra time, the boys knew this was going to be a tough assignment.

Kilkeel started strongly and edged the first half with the better chances, with a strong shot cleared off the line on the stroke of half-time. In the second half Clounagh started to apply pressure, but the KHS defence kept the home team at bay. A free kick from 25 yards by the Clounagh midfielder clipped the crossbar and Charlie in nets made a very fine save. As the second half progressed, Kilkeel came more into the game and the pace of their forwards and attack posed problems for Clounagh. With less than 5 minutes on the clock, a through ball from Tommy, was latched onto by Jaydon and he lashed a powerful drive to the back of the net to put Kilkeel 1-0 up. Clounagh threw everything at Kilkeel in the final moments of the game, but the Mourne men held firm to progress to the quarter final of the Plate competition.

Congratulations to the boys for a complete, strong performance in what was an entertaining, end to end game. Well done!
