U-18s are South Down Cup Winners

The Under 18 football team saved their best performance for last in yesterday afternoon’s South Down Cup Final against St Patrick’s College from Banbridge.

The game started off with both teams cancelling each other out in the early stages but a nice piece of skill from the opposition winger saw them take the lead on 15minutes. Kilkeel then came to life and after a period of pressure, Josh scored the equaliser with a brave header from an excellent Isaac cross just before half time.

The second half started at a much higher tempo and Kilkeel were sensing the game was there to be won. We were in the ascendency and playing some nice football but without troubling the opposition goalkeeper. Ben and Jack were showing real quality in midfield and it was from their driving force that the next goal arrived. Dylan got on the end of some neat play inside the box to put us 2-1 ahead. Shortly after, Daniel added a third in similar circumstances to the second goal and this helped settle any remaining nerves. Before the end, Ben played an outstanding, defence splitting pass for Dylan to run on to and finish past the on rushing keeper.

The game finished 4-1 and every player stepped up to the mark when it was needed. Congratulations to all boys especially those who played their last game for Kilkeel High School. A great way to round off the season.
