Last week a group of MIA students from Kilkeel High School and St Louis Grammar School went to the SSE Arena in Belfast, to view the Moving Image Arts Showcase 2023 where one of our students from last year was nominated for best A2 Animated film. Alice, a student from St Louis but taught at Kilkeel High School, produced a high-quality animated film called ‘Daydreaming’.
The audience was treated to a viewing on the big screen, of all the best work from students who entered the CCEA examinations last year. At the end of the viewing, winners were announced in each category. Alice was awarded joint first place for her film and was presented with a cut-glass crystal award.
This is a very prestigious event and showcases work of a very high level with many winners going on to have successful careers in film and TV. After the viewing and awards, pupils had time to chat with professionals in the industry and get advice on career prospects. Pupils also were able to meet directors, Tom Berkeley and Ross White who recently won an Oscar in Hollywood, for their short film ‘An Irish Goodbye’.
Congratulations to Alice on this amazing achievement and we hope that her work will inspire all of our MIA pupils.
