A mix of Year 10 and 11 girls competed in the Rod Houston tournament at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, competing against national school cup winners from England, Wales and ROI. Our school qualified for this when they won the Year 8 NI Cup back in May 2023. The girls came up against tough opposition with some girls coming from Premier League academies. They battled hard throughout and did themselves very proud playing some good football for the most part. We came third in the tournament with two defeats and a win over Wales. The highlight came on the last day, when our player Ella, was awarded player of the tournament and presented with the Nigel Brown Cup; what a fantastic achievement in amongst such a high calibre of players. Ella scored in all of our games and scored 4 against Wales. The girls have also enjoyed some shopping in Birmingham and socialising with the other teams. The tournament was set in a beautiful estate which also holds training camps for the GB gymnastics team. We were fortunate to be able to watch some of their training and get photos with Olympic bronze medallist Jake Jarman. All in all, a very enjoyable trip!
Thank you so much to our kit sponsors, Ian Graham & Son and ENE and also to JN Hire for our jackets. The girls looked very smart and we appreciate your kindness and support.
