Launch of Cadets at KHS

Being the very first CCF in the UK affiliated to the Irish Guards Regiment, we were delighted to welcome our mascot Turlough Mor or ‘Seamus’ (as he’s known when off duty) along with his handler Drummer Dean and Piper Donnelly to Kilkeel High School as part of our official launch of the Combined Cadet Force. In keeping with our goal of Creating Opportunities for all our pupils, we are excited to offer this amazing opportunity to all pupils in Year 9 and above.

Alongside the rest of our extra-curricular programme, the Combined Cadet Force (a youth organisation) provides all pupils the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills through the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. Being a cadet will allow young people to step out of their comfort zone and take part in activities they my never otherwise attempt. Currently we are focusing on skill development through the army section of CCF, but this does not mean that we cannot explore and offer further opportunities through the Navy or RAF in the future.

Our CCF syllabus covers a wide range of subjects which most young people will find interesting, engaging and possibly challenging … from learning to cook in the “field” to setting up a tarpaulin covering to protect against the rain. Additional benefits in joining cadets at KHS include vocational qualifications, trips to England and possible international trips – to name but a few.

If you would like to find out more about the opportunities available to young people through Cadets at Kilkeel High School, please get in contact.
