A group of Kilkeel High School Sixth Form students recently took part in an engaging and informative Young Drivers Day at Bishopscourt, Downpatrick. The event aimed to promote road safety and responsible driving among young people. Students heard from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service about the dangers of speeding, careless driving and mobile phone use behind the wheel, and experienced a powerful virtual reality simulation of a road traffic collision from a driver’s perspective. They then had the opportunity to take to the racetrack under the guidance of professional driving instructors, receiving practical advice on safe driving techniques. A highlight of the day was a realistic police stop demonstration involving serving officers, helping students understand what to expect and how to respond calmly in real-life situations. The event was both educational and enjoyable, leaving our students better informed and more confident about becoming safe, responsible drivers.
