Huge congratulations to Year 8 pupil Poppy, who has secured a place on the TC Racing team, as it starts its fourth year on the road. TC racing is believed to be the only all-female cycling team in Ireland and Poppy has joined as a youth rider.
Poppy’s love of cycling developed after attending Shimna Wheelers Cycling Club Saturday morning sessions in Tollymore and Castlewellan Forest Parks. Before long she was competing in mountain bike and closed circuit races. Recently, Poppy won a trophy for becoming the 2021 Ulster track cycling champion and last weekend, she was selected to represent the Cycling Ulster Youth Academy, completing 3 stages over two days in Drogheda. Poppy showed superb strength and stamina throughout and gained invaluable experience.
