Charity at KHS

The pupils, parents and staff of KHS have proved their generosity again, by donating £ in the past seven months to various charities.

The year started with a collection to support the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance; we were able to donate a cheque for £500 to this great cause. In November, we held a pop-up shop at breaktime; poppies and other items were sold to raise £350 for The Royal British Legion. Also, that week, Year 8 held their annual Top-Hat Sale which raised £245 for Save the Children and we had a Wolly Hat Day for Mourne Stimulus where £290 was raised. Sixth Form came dressed as their future profession for Action Cancer and they raised £320 for this worthwhile cause.

KHS hosted a DKMS Donor Drive in November, where we had many people swab and join the donor register. The event was greatly supported by the whole local community.

Before Christmas, Year 9 filled shoeboxes with gifts and toiletries to be sent around the world to help children less fortunate than themselves. This was coordinated through the charity xxxx. The school also gave very generously to the local Food Bank.

The Southern Area Hospice Services also benefited from the KHS annual Christmas Coffee Morning, alongside the sale of Christmas Eve bags made by the LSC. We were able to present a cheque for £2220.76 to this worthwhile charity. Over the Christmas holidays, a treasure hunt was held for Daniel’s Rainbow Fund and £280 was raised to help with research into Wilms’ tumour.

In the new year, we have kept bringing in money through our weekly charity collection. We will be able to allocate this money to local charities later this term.

This month we hosted our first ever Spring Concert and Dessert Night in aid of Daisy Lodge and Friends of KHS. There were over 250 tickets sold, and it was a great night showcasing the many talents of KHS students. We also launched the Friends of KHS Instagram page at the event. A total of £2400 was raised and we would like to thank all those who supported this event.

As a school, we would like to thank the parents and local community for their generosity and support this year so far. Every little helps, and we encourage everyone to continue to give to our weekly charity collection.
