Internet Safety

Keeping our young people safe when using ICT

Keeping our young people safe when using ICT and online resources is vital, given the recent rise in instances of cyberbullying, sexting, problems associated with social networking sites and the resulting impact on school work

These issues prompted us to conduct our own survey, which questioned all of our pupils about the extent and nature of the time they spend online. After considering the results we organised an internet safety evening for parents to raise awareness of some of the relevant issues and provide them with guidance and support in addressing these at home.

We have added a number of ‘how to’ guides to our Vimeo channel. These can be accessed by clicking here.

They cover the following topics:

  1. How to set parental controls for Google search
  2. How to set parental controls for Youtube
  3. How to set restrictions on an ipad
  4. Facebook privacy settings
  5. Windows 7 Parental Controls – A complete tutorial
  6. Funemo – Parental controls for Android devices

We have also compiled a list of useful websites that allow you to learn more about online safety and how to protect your child. These are available as a downloadable and printable document in our Parents’ Section and below for easy browsing.
