  1. To enable students to participate in, and exercise responsibility throughout the whole process of design, by identifying and meeting needs in the man - made world.
  2. To provide the opportunity for students to exercise initiative, imagination and resourcefulness, to acquire skills and knowledge in the pursuit of design solutions.
  3. To encourage students to develop critical awareness of the man - made world, and learn how they can be involved in influencing it.
  4. To extend pupils’ knowledge and understanding of current theory, practice and opinion relevant to designing, planning and producing products in single and multiple materials.                                                                                                                          
  5. To develop an understanding of the technological process and apply this when solving technological problems.
  6. To provide an understanding of a body of knowledge appropriate to the solving of problems.
  7. To encourage a range of communication and information communications technology (ICT) skills, which are central to the technological process, including oral, written, graphics and model forms.
  8. To develop a range of production, assembly and constructional skills appropriate to the realisation of an artifact or system.
  9. To develop the ability to exercise value judgments of an aesthetic, technical, economic and moral nature.
  10. To attain a general awareness of technology.
  11. To encourage curiosity, inquiry, initiative inventiveness, ingenuity, resourcefulness and discrimination.
  12. To stimulate the ability to co-operate with others in the solving of technological problems.
  13. To promote an attitude of common sense towards all practical activities based on an in-depth awareness of safety practices.
  14. To develop practical skills in a range of materials, processes and software packages.
