Key Stage 3
French is studied by all students in Years 8 to 10. We base our Schemes of Work around the NI Revised Curriculum. The course followed by most KS3 students is Tricolore Total. Thereafter we use Encore Tricolore. We also use a wide range of other resources including interactive websites, our own worksheets, flashcards and regular ‘Thinking Skills’ lessons. Assessment takes the form of regular end of unit tests in listening, reading, speaking and writing, along with mid-year and end of year examinations.
We also enter pupils for the CCEA OLA Scheme (formerly GOML) at Entry Level 2 and 3. The new OLA scheme has been aligned to the NI curriculum and the language content has been refreshed making it more relevant to the needs of both learners and teachers. OLA has 4 distinct levels, Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2. The scheme provides language – learning goals for Key Stage 3 with enrichment and motivation to our language learners. The assessment methodology allows learners to take tests in listening, reading and writing on-line, and the format of the speaking test has also been revised and improved.
Through all our Units of Work, we endeavour to:
- Develop pupils as Individuals
- Develop pupils as Contributors to Society
- Develop pupils as Contributors tothe Economy and Environment
Topics covered include:
Self, family & friends, home, local & global environment, school & continuing education, health, travel and tourism, shopping for goods and services, public services, career and future plans.
Pupils are encouraged to use resources on the VLE to prepare for tests and to practise vocabulary. There are some links to other websites on the page and we are developing resources to accompany each Unit of the textbook, Tricolore Total 1.
We want to encourage our pupils to become independent learners and to take responsibility for their own learning and the VLE is an excellent resourse.
