GCSE CHILD DEVELOPMENT

This specification has also been updated and is a relevant and stimulating specification to teach and study.  The course aims to encourage an understanding of pregnancy, the responsibilities of being a parent and the overall needs of young children.  It also emhasises how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy.  The specification helps students progress from Key Stage 3 and provides a sound basis for the further study of Home Economics and related subjects at a more advanced level. 

It is composed of 4 units:-

UNIT 1 - Parenthood, Pregnancy and Childbirth - 1 hour, includes short answer questions, structured questions and extended writing questions, 20% weighting.

UNIT 2 - Child Development (0-5 years) - i hour, includes short answer questions, structured questions and extended writing questions, 20% weighting.

UNIT 3 - Controlled Assessment Investrigative Task - 25 hours, 40% weighting.

UNIT 4 - Controlled Assessment Short Task - 15 hours, 20% weighting.
