Key Stage 3

At KS3 we follow the Revised Curriculum for Northern Ireland.

English is a subject which is:

Holistic (the separate skills you learn all enhance the subject as a whole)

Heuristic (it is based on experience and by DOING )

Recursive (you improve by revisiting / practising the same sort of task!)

“I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.”

James Michener

“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”

Jack London

“Punctuation directs you how to read, in the way musical notation directs a musician how to play.”

Lynne Truss

“Write your first draft with your heart. Rewrite with your head.”

From the movie “Finding Forrester”

“He who never made a mistake never made a discovery.”

Samuel Smiles

“You don’t have to suffer to be a poet; adolescence is enough suffering for anyone.”

John Ciardi
